Drake & Common Squash Beef "Man 2 Man"

Despite speculation claiming Drake and Common had harsh words toward one another at last weekend's Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, new reports claim the two hip-hop stars actually squashed recent tensions.
According to new reports, the rappers came face-to-face last Sunday (February 12).

Streetz Iz Watchin has learned that Common and Drake actually squashed their beef at the Grammys, clearing up previous reports that the two rappers almost got into a violent altercation. Apparently, both Drake and Common's entourages happened to be in the same area at the end of the Grammy red carpet, near where artists were being distributed their VIP credentials to enter the Staples Center, according to a source in the latter's camp. Common felt it was awkward for two men that had exchanged words in song to be in the same vicinity without saying anything to each other. With the two eyeballing each other intensely, Common asked Drake, "What's up?" Drake responded with a "What's up?" of his own, and Common tried to approach him with the intent of speaking to the Toronto rapper one on one. (Hip Hop Wired)
Despite some initial confusion, they came together and squashed their problems.
However, Drake's security and other members of his entourage defensively intervened in his progress. Allegedly Drake said, "Yo, I grew up listening to this dude, what's the problem?," while his security was telling Common, "We respect you, this isn't necessary." But Common wanted to talk to Drake "man to man," angered that two rivals would cross paths and just not speak. One of the members of Drake's crew turned out to be his father, Dennis Graham, who told Common the two artists "need to cut this out, y'all are better than this." According to the source, the elder Graham's intervention made Com change his approach, with cooler heads prevailing and the two rappers eventually going off to the side and speaking to each other alone. Holding true to the words he said in an interview moments before, Common and Drake exchanged pounds, and told everyone in their respective camps the beef had been squashed.
Now If we can get Nicki and Kim together.

Young Money Signs Christina Milian, Weezy Takes Shot at Jay-z & Kanye West

Lil Wayne announced the signing of a new member to Young Money Saturday night (February 11) while performing alongside Drake during the annual Cash Money Grammy weekend party. The YMCMB head Honcho also took the time to honor the memory of the late, great Whitney Houston, who passed away earlier that night, and to take jabs at Jay-Z and Kanye West.

“I got the beautiful Christina Milian with me,” Weezy said while onstage, backed by the likes of manager Cortez Bryant, Young Money president Mack Maine, Corey Gunz, Lil Twist and others. “Young Money, Christina Milian.”

Lil Tunechi also took the time to thank his team for their contribution to the label’s success, but not before asking for a moment of silence for Whitney Houston, who was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. after being found in her hotel room in Hollywood, California, just hours before mentor Clive Davis’ annual Grammy party was scheduled to take place. The event was cancelled.

The evening wasn’t complete until Wayne took time out to throw some jabs at Hov, rapping at the end of his announcement about signing Christina Milian, “I met a red-bone, I took the girl home/I asked her what she wanna watch, she said, ‘surely not The Throne,” to roars from the crowd.

Lil Wayne is up for a couple of Grammys, including Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for DJ Khaled’s “I’m on One.” Stay tune to StreetzIzWatchin for a full recap of the Grammys Sunday (Februabry 12).

Drake Being Sued by Ex Over Marvin's Room

File this one under ‘when drunk dialing goes wrong!’ Ericka Lee, Drake’s alleged ex-girlfriend and muse behind his hit song Marvin’s Room“, is suing the rapper over her vocals being used on the smash hit record. Erika is the inspiration for the record and is the voice heard on the voice mail monologues. She was credited as a “vocalist” on the song under “Syren Lyric Muse” but has never received any compensation for her work.

She is claiming that Drake acknowledged her contributions via text messages, which she has saved. Reportedly, they read U basically made that song” and It’s sh*t without you.” Big mistake, Drake!

Lee filed  a lawsuit against the rapper on  July 11, claiming, “My works and voice are used on this work.” About six weeks later, Drake’s label, Cash Money Records made its own claim, saying that the song authored was an “employer for hire.”  According to the complaint, Drake later sent a text message to Lee that offered her two percent of “publishing royalties.”

By November, Ericka claims that Drake agreed to meet up with her in Los Angeles to discuss, but when he didn’t keep his word, she hired a lawyer. When Drake found out, he allegedly spazzed out and started making threatening phone calls.

“What the f–k is your problem?” he said to her, according to the complaint, then offering her “4-5%” of publishing monies plus a $50,000 payout to go away.”

Lee is demanding that a judge declare her as co-writer of the song. She’s also seeking damages and disgorgement of profits on allegations of breach of fiduciary duties and unjust enrichment. Lee is represented by Neville Johnson, who previously filed a lawsuit against Drake on behalf of a Playboy Enterprises for sampling an unauthorized sound recording it owned on “Best I Ever Had.”

It looks like Ms. Lee has a good lawsuit on her hands. Drake should have just paid her upfront. Now it looks like it’s going to cost him a lot more money. Crazy how the same lawyer who successfully sued Drake before is back at it.  Hey, you know what they say, “Mo’ money Mo’ problems!”

Does Drake Really Want to Fight Common?

New York Bad Boy recording artist and "Mafioso Rapper" French Montana has recently revealed some interesting news in the Drake vs Common Saga. He says the Young Money Canadian born rapper wants to literally fight Common physically.

Personally I'm all for rap beef as long as it stays on wax, but getting physical is a whole different story. I am somewhat disappointed because these are two of the most admirable rap artist in the game, and I am fans of them both.

French goes on to say he believes the drama started over Serena Williams. here is what he had to say.
"I think it was over [Serena Williams] or something like that," French said speaking on Drake and Common's feud. "Shout-out to Serena Williams. I'm staying out of that. With them, you've gotta look at it like it's hip-hop, it's competition, it's good for the music. I think Drake wants to fight. Yeah, I think Drake wants to fight. He said he can't wait to run into him. Man, I'm gonna hit him. I'm gonna let him know [we don't want him fighting]. Shout-out to Drake." ("The Angie Martinez Show")
Common and Drake were both in Park City, Utah this weekend to perform and enjoy festivities at the Sundance Film Festival but, as could be expected, the two rappers didn’t make time to hang with each other. MTV News caught up with Common for a quick chat, during which he maintained that the beef between himself and the Toronto rapper had come to a stalemate. “I kinda addressed it so much on record, I feel like I really don’t have any more to say about it. I think it’s just part of a hip hop battle, that’s all really,” Common said.

So who would win in a fist to cuff fight between Common & Drake?

Is Common Dissing Drake Again?

The war of words between rap veteran Common and Young Money's Drake have ceased to end with the G.O.O.D. Music affiliate once again getting at him in a new freestyle.

In his freestyle, Common took it to Drizzy's homeland by referencing Canada.
Common keeps his lyrical tiff at bay in the most recent round of subliminal shots against Drake. Common and V-103 held a private playback and Q&A session last night in Atlanta with radio personality Ryan Cameron at Vanquish lounge. As part of the evening's revelry, Cameron held up cue cards with words he wanted Common--always the adept freestyler-- to rap about over "The Light." When a certain Canadian rapper's name was called out, a very dapper Common playfully rapped, "You can ask why, people wanting me to keep dissing Canada Dry/I can't do that," a nod to his Drake name-calling on the "Stay Schemin (Remix)" "I'm talking too long with this amateur guy/ You ain't wettin' nobody n---a, you Canada Dry", Common lashed out in his original diss. (RapFix)
Coincidentally, Common said he had no interest in continuing his battle against Drake a few days ago.
"I don't think I had anything to prove," Common says. "I just felt like somebody stepped and challenged me, so I had to step into the ring. He said some things that I thought were directed at me, so I had to address it back." Now that it's all out in the open, Common is ready to move on. "I feel like I said what I had to say, and I'm just going to let it be at that point," he says. "Now, if something else happens, then I'll just have to act accordingly. But right now, I feel like, man, I said what I needed to say about this situation on record." (Rolling Stone)

"Say My Name" Subliminal Rap Disses. Clever or Coward?

Dissing in hip-hop has always been a long traditional and rite of passage. No matter who you are, your status as the top emcee or femcee, you are likely to get dissed. If you are considered to be a top emcee you are more than likely to get dissed by someone on the come up who wants to make a name for themselves. Personally I see nothing wrong with that. I mean back in the day when you freestyled on the block, if you were nice, you weren't considered the best unless you went up against the best freestyler on the block.

Now the block has become the entire country, and even the entire world. In the words of the late great NOTORIOUS B.I.G "Whoever thought hip-hop would take it this far?" So with that being said, it's not uncommon for a relatively unknown rapper to come in the game and diss an established artist. 50 cent dropped "How to Rob" and he name dropped alot people in game, hell he even went after Brian Mcknight. Now what the hell would Mr. Back at one do to 50.

Okay let me get to the point. In the histroy of hip-hop rap disses. rappers have chose sometimes to say the name of the person their spitting lyrical venom at, and some choose not to. For example, Tupac said in his classic "Hit'em Up" record, "Biggie Smalls & Jr. Mafia some mark a$$ B!%ches". You have Nas's "Ether", Jay-Z's "Takeover" and more recently Common diss to Drake on "Stay Schemin" remix.

In today's hip-hop enviornmemnt, the disses are still coming, but they require a little imgaination. For example, when Drake disses Common he doesn't really say his name, when Nicki dissed Kim she never said her name, However to be fair Kim never said Nicki name either, but when you make an entire mixtape based of an artist album, with the artist decapited we kind of get the picture.

If you notice most of these artist I mentioned who says names came up in the 90's era of hip-hop and the latter came in in the new millenium. This kind of tells me its a generational thing. But does it matter, does it make you a weaker or stronger person by saying the name of the person your dissing? Is that to easy? Or is it clever to diss someone indirectly and we have to guess who it's about? Both are fine with me, I love a good battle, as long as it stays on wax. What do you think?

Has Common recorded "The Bitch in You" Pt 2?

If you are an old head when it comes to hip-hop then you may remember the Common Vs. Ice Cube beef in the early 90's. Common caught the wrath of Ice Cube and the Westside connection over his classic song "I used to love her". Those two went back and forth until the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan intervened and help squash the beef.

Well In 2012, Common is beefing with Drake. This is all fun and lyrics even though some people are trying to suggest it could turn into something more. Well, I am hearing rumors that Common has braced for a Drake reply and recorded (or will record) “The Bitch  In Yoo” Part 2 for Drake.  If this is true, I am assuming it is under the anticipation that Drake may return with a diss. Based on what Baby of Cash Money  recently proclaimed, I don’t see Drake having much more to say. Also, I think quiet as kept, people realize that this could be a brand problem for Drizzy, not a Hip-Hop one. IF “The Bitch In Yoo” Part 2 comes out do you think it would measure up to the original? Based on “Sweet,” I think so. Maybe Drake should take the beat first and run with it!

Do you call this real beef?
